A Few Minutes in the Life of a Toddler

I was tickled recently while John was reading to Tirzah and (at least at first) Liberty.  I was going to take a picture or two of them reading together, but never did get even one of Tirzah's face because I hated to interrupt them and make it artificial by asking them to move the book.  I hope there will be other times to photograph.

But what I did get was a chance to photograph a small record of typical toddler activity.  All the photos below were taken in just a few minutes, while John was reading the book.  It just made me laugh and reminded me of a time when Tirzah was much smaller, when I observed her for a little while, writing down what she did and all the things she left strewn in her wake.  It was fascinating and did a lot to explain why it's so difficult to keep things picked up when there's a little one around to make messes.  I've got that around somewhere I'm sure, but finding it would be quite an accomplishment.

If you'd like an entertaining and interesting study and record for the future, though, and you happen to have a toddler or another very busy younger one in your home (doesn't have to technically be a toddler, and I'm not sure exactly when they outgrow that phase anyway), give it a try!  Photograph or just write down his or her activities over a short time period.  And if you post about it, leave me a link in the comments so I can see it too!

I've taken the "liberty" of inserting my own ideas of what she's thinking below the photos.  Wouldn't you just love to know their actual thoughts as they go about their busy days, though?

Well, Dad wouldn't let me take over the book he was reading...
(yep, it's THAT book again!  Totally unplanned!)

...so I had to go get one of my own.

And then I thought I'd bring my own place to sit, too...

...but after that I decided perhaps Dad's lap was better...

...so I got a few extra books for good measure, and then climbed back up with him.

Then, I began speed-reading my books, to make up for lost time.

:)

What a darling little busy bug she is!

  1. What a fun post! Yes, indeed, it's no wonder toddlers sleep so hard at naptime/bedtime! They are so busy all the time.

  2. Ha, yeah, when they sleep they sleep hard, and seem so amazingly peaceful. My little scoot does resist sleep lately some too, though...
