The Recipe Experiment

I've thought of posting recipes for a while, but hesitated.  Why?  Because I'm not one of those people who really gets excited about this sort of thing.  I'm not one who loves cooking.  I don't particularly enjoy slaving away for hours over things that disappear in a few minutes.  Do you see my bad attitude coming through?  So sorry.  Don't let it affect you.  I hope you love cooking.  I wish I did.  At least sort of.

I do try to think about the positives of cooking -- and there are some, such as
that it saves money, adds nutrition, can be nice bonding time with the children, builds character in both them and me, is a valuable life skill for them to learn, etc.  And it's not true that food disappears with nothing to show for it, even if it seems like it does.  But the bottom line is, I still don't like it.  Some do, and some don't, and I don't.  It's just who I am.  I'd rather be reading, or something else.

That said, I do spend quite a bit of time dealing with food.  Why?  Because the benefits outweigh the fact that I don't particularly like it.

Part of me thinks, well, since I spend time with this and gain experience I might as well share that with others by sharing recipes.  And some part of me thinks it could be fun.  But another part of me isn't sure whether I want to.  I mean, I spend enough time thinking about food already, right?

So this is an experiment.  The ladies of "4 Moms, 35 Kids" are doing a recipe swap today, and I'm going to post a couple of soup recipes for that.  I'm linking them to a "Recipes" tab at the top of my page, in case I post other recipes in the future.  I don't know if I'll ever put any more up or not, though -- I obviously have enough trouble just posting about other things as it is. :)

  1. I do enjoy good recipe exchanges, but have to be in the mood. It's not soup weather to me right now. . .how about some simple, light summer fare?? :)

I truly enjoy cooking, it's the clean up that catches me.

  2. How about cold cucumber-yogurt soup? :) I love that, but I'm the only one who likes it by itself here. We usually use it as sauce with falafel. But we eat hot soups year-round here w/out much regard for the weather usually. Warm food can seem nicer in cold weather though, I agree.
