Clutter and Chaos

This is what my couch looked like one Monday this month. Ahem...

Actually, it likely has looked similar to that every Monday this month, and on and off in between. It's just too convenient as a drop-off place for the laundry (and other things) midway to the bedrooms -- a place to fold, and sort... and often, sit for a while. Even quite a while. Well, at least it's clean laundry. Um, at least mostly.... Ahem. I think you get the point.

I was inspired to take this picture in the interest of reality.

As in, nobody's perfect. And definitely not me.

I've noticed that once a woman has several children, some people start talking like she's some kind of superwoman, as though having several children automatically makes her the most [insert favorable adjective of choice] person in the world. Especially if she homeschools, too.

That would be nice. But nope. Not true. I'm just me. No pedestals around here.

Not that I've never thought that way. I know how it is -- it's easy to think that of anyone with more children than you have yourself. Or even of people who don't have more children than you, if you think they appear to have it together.

How I could appear 'together' I'm not exactly sure. I feel more like I'm in about several pieces going different directions all at once, much of the time.

But I'm not trying to say I don't understand the perspective. I've been there.

It's just that it's not true.

At all.

At least not in this case. I've seen some blogs where you wouldn't know. But I don't want to be one of those.

But I'm not showing any more pictures of what my house looked like that day, either. ;-P

You'd rather see pictures of children anyway, right? Much more pleasant to look at. Here are a few taken that same day of disorder:

"Why yes, I did spit up on my outfit again. I'm not perfect either." ;)

"Maybe you should dress me in some of those clothes on the couch, assuming you can find some that fit me." If that's what she's really thinking I'm glad she doesn't talk yet.

This one does. "Will you take my pic-shure?" She's so charming. Hard to believe she's one of the worst mess-makers around here currently, isn't it? She and her messy mama. ;)

One more thought I'd like to add. While it's true nobody on earth is perfect, there is one who did life a perfect life -- Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I am so thankful that He gave His life for the rest of us who aren't perfect, so that through Him we can be made perfect spiritually.

"For by You I can run against a troop,
By my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the LORD is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
For who is God, except the LORD?
And who is a rock, except our God?
It is God who arms me with strength,
And makes my way perfect."
~ Psalm 18:29-32

  1. I really have no idea what you are talking about. . .

    (gales of hysterical laughter which are vainly attempting to be brought under control. . .yeah, just like everything else around here! ha!)

    Does this mean I now have to post a picture of my bed? covered with laundry? and sometimes with a friend's sleeping baby in the middle of it? (All my friends know the bed will be covered with laundry when they come over and we just prop it up as walls to keep the child from rolling off the bed. Yes, there is that much.)

  2. Just wanted you to know that I really liked this post and have thought of it often since I read it. I don't think any of us has it ALL together. I know I certainly don't!
